The selection, working, transport and placement of each monolith is an event in itself, not only for the host site but also for the donating community. The site artist will work with the character, facets and positioning of each monolith to best articulate the character of the piece and its origins.
The unique collection is a physically powerful piece and it’s educational value will be a valuable asset to generations of artists, architects, earth scientists and engineers, bringing together the cultures of the arts and sciences and disparate geological assets to a single central study location. The local community and volunteers will be engaged in the process of developing and constructing the piece as it evolves, the visitors that the National Stone Collection will attract will add further momentum to the ongoing regeneration of the area as a new centre piece to the National Forest.
