Dover Harbour Board’s plans to extend the Dover Western Docks will sadly remove a large proportion of the town’s beach. However in building the new harbour wall the development appears to have provided the perfect conditions to create a new, much longer beach, for Dover. All indications are that if an artificial beach were to be constructed in conjunction with the new harbour Dover could benefit from a much larger and more usable beach with great views to the Castle and White Cliffs.
This is a fantastic and low cost opportunity for Dover and the Harbour Board to take what appears to be a beach loss into a massive beach gain providing a huge new public space on the sea front and offsetting the most negative of impact that the port extension will have.
